The current research has varying opinions as to how much water is actually enough. Every person’s requirement is slightly different. Climate, daily activity level, diet and body type can influence your hydration level.
As a general guide, it is recommended to drink one litre of water for every 25 kilograms of body weight, per day. For example, if you weigh around 75 kilograms you should aim to drink approximately three litres of water per day.
Keep it in mind that, if you have lost more water during very warm weather or an intense sweat session at your local gym, you may require a little bit more water.
Yes, absolutely! Water is vital for a healthy spine and healthy muscles and joints. Within our muscles there is a very high percentage of water. Dehydration can have a negative effect on our muscles and may lead to such things as; muscle cramps, muscle tightness and pain.
The discs in our spine (who’s job it is to act as a shock absorber) also contain fluid. Therefore, it is highly important to drink plenty of water so that our spinal discs can remain plump and hydrated; so they may do their job as best as possible.
Certain conditions can also affect your hydration levels, such as; pregnancy, breastfeeding, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea. It is important to seek medical advice in these circumstances.
