How much does a chiropractor cost in Australia (2026)?
How much does it cost to see a chiropractor in Brisbane?
If you’ve been thinking about seeing a chiropractor but aren’t sure what to expect price-wise, you’re not alone. The cost of chiropractic care in Australia varies quite a bit depending on where you live, the clinic you choose, and the type of appointment you need.
In this guide, we’ll break down the average chiropractor cost across Australia, explain what affects pricing, and share our current fees at Chiropractic Moves in Paddington, Brisbane. We’ll also cover how to claim through your health fund and other ways to reduce your out-of-pocket costs.
Average chiropractor cost in Australia (2026)
Across Australia, you can generally expect to pay:
- Initial consultation: $60 to $250 (average around $90 to $150)
- Follow-up visits: $60 to $120 (average around $70 to $90)
These ranges vary by location, with capital city clinics (particularly in Sydney and Melbourne) typically charging more than regional areas. Brisbane pricing tends to sit in the mid-range nationally.
What affects the cost of a chiropractic visit?
Several factors influence how much you’ll pay for chiropractic care:
- Location: Urban clinics generally have higher overheads (rent, insurance, staffing), which is reflected in pricing. A chiropractor in Brisbane’s inner suburbs may charge differently than one in a regional Queensland town.
- Type of appointment: Initial consultations take longer, typically around 30 minutes, because they include a full health history, physical examination, and often treatment on the same day. Standard follow-up visits are shorter and more focused, usually around 15 minutes.
- Practitioner experience: Chiropractors with additional postgraduate qualifications or extensive clinical experience may charge more, reflecting their deeper training in specific areas.
- Treatment complexity: Some conditions require more time, more detailed assessment, or additional techniques, which can affect the consultation fee.
Initial consultation vs follow-up visits
It’s normal for the initial consultation to cost more than subsequent visits. Here’s why:
Your first appointment is all about getting to know you. Your chiropractor will take a thorough health history, ask about your lifestyle and what’s been bothering you, perform a physical examination, and discuss their findings with you. At most clinics (including ours), treatment begins at this first visit, so you’re getting assessment and hands-on care in one session. Initial consultations typically run for around 30 minutes.
Standard follow-up visits are shorter and more targeted. Your chiropractor already understands your situation and can focus directly on treatment: adjustments, soft tissue work, and exercise progression. These visits typically take around 15 minutes, which is why they cost less. Occasionally, your chiropractor may schedule a longer follow-up if they need more time to reassess your progress or discuss your treatment plan in detail.

Health insurance rebates for chiropractic
If you have private health insurance with extras cover that includes chiropractic, you can claim a rebate on your visits. The amount you get back depends on your specific policy and level of cover, but rebates typically cover 40% to 80% of the consultation fee.
At Chiropractic Moves, we have a HICAPS terminal which allows you to process your health fund claim on the spot. Simply bring your health fund card, swipe it at the terminal after your appointment, and you’ll only pay the gap amount. There’s no need to submit a claim separately or wait for reimbursement.
We can process claims for many major health funds including Bupa, Medibank, HCF, NIB, HBF, Defence Health, Police Health, Queensland Country, Australian Unity, Westfund, CBHS, AHM, and more. For more detail, check out our guide on whether your health insurance covers chiropractic.
Medicare and the GP Chronic Condition Management Plan
Medicare doesn’t typically cover standard chiropractic visits. However, if you have a chronic condition (one that has lasted, or is expected to last, six months or more), you may be eligible for subsidised chiropractic sessions through a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP).
Here’s how it works:
- Visit your GP and discuss your chronic condition.
- Your GP prepares a GPCCMP (this replaced the older GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangement system from 1 July 2025).
- Your GP provides a referral letter for chiropractic care.
- You can then access up to five Medicare-subsidised allied health visits per calendar year, which can be used for chiropractic, physiotherapy, or a combination of allied health services.
The Medicare rebate for each chiropractic session under this plan is currently $61.80 per visit. While it doesn’t cover the full consultation fee, it can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs, especially if combined with private health insurance.
Note: You do not need a GP referral to see a chiropractor privately. The GPCCMP pathway is an additional option for people with qualifying chronic conditions.
How to get the most value from your chiropractic care
Here are a few practical tips to help manage the cost of your chiropractic visits:
- Check your extras cover: Log into your health fund’s app or website to confirm your chiropractic benefit limits, waiting periods, and annual cap.
- Time your visits: Most health fund benefit periods reset annually (often in January or April). Plan your treatment to make the most of each year’s allowance.
- Ask about a GPCCMP: If you have a chronic condition, speak to your GP about whether a Chronic Condition Management Plan could give you access to Medicare rebates.
- Do your exercises: The most cost-effective thing you can do is follow through on the exercises and advice your chiropractor gives you between visits. Patients who stay active between appointments often need fewer sessions overall.
